| Baptisms
Baptisms
(commonly known as a ‘Christenings') are performed once a
month (usually the third Sunday) at the main 10.30am Sunday
service.
We
consider it a joy to baptise children and babies, but do ask
that parent/s attend a short baptism preparation evening,
which takes place once a month, before booking a date for
the baptism. At
this preparation evening we watch a video which explains what
baptism is all about. We hope that the video will also help
you to understand the meaning of the vows which you will make
on behalf of your child.
At the baptism preparation evening we will also give you plenty
of opportunity to ask all the practical questions you might
have.
If
you do not live within the borders of the parish of High Green,
then we do ask that you first see the vicar of the parish
in which you live for permission to have a baptism at our
church, before proceeding with baptism preparation.
Weddings
Weddings
are a time of great joy, and a church wedding offers the best
possible start to married life. If you would like a wedding
at St Saviour's then please come and see us at the surgery
time detailed above.
Here
at St Saviour's we do offer marriage in church where one or
both of the partners has been previously divorced, but under
these circumstances we will ask to have an additional meeting
with you to discuss the situation in detail before agreeing
to proceed.
Funerals
Many
people plan their own funeral, or the funeral of a loved,
to take place at St Saviour's church before the committal
at a crematorium or cemetery. Can
we reassure you that it is always a solemn privilege to perform
this rite for you, or your loved one/s, regardless of whether
you, or they, have been a regular member of this congregation.
Although
our Garden
of Remembrance
is now full, we are still very happy for you to scatter the
ashes of your loved one in that peaceful space if you should
so wish.
The
death of a loved one is, inevitably, a time of great turmoil
and we attempt to make this a little easier for you by offering
you the assistance of the clergy or our own trained bereavement
counsellor, should you so wish. |
